What You Can (and Shouldn’t) Compost: A Simple Guide for Busy Humans
Starting a compost system can feel overwhelming when you're not sure what belongs in it — or what doesn’t. But once you learn a few basics, it becomes second nature. Composting isn’t about perfection — it’s about consistency, curiosity, and care.
Here’s a quick breakdown to get you started:
✅ YES: Compost These!
Fruit & vegetable scraps (peels, cores, rinds)
Coffee grounds and filters
Eggshells
Tea bags (check for plastic-free bags)
Paper towels, napkins, and cardboard (uncoated)
Leaves, flowers, and indoor plant trimmings
Shredded newspaper
🚫 NO: Do Not Compost These!
Meat, dairy, or oily food scraps
Pet waste or litter
Glossy or coated paper (magazines, receipts)
Plastic, foil, or synthetic materials
Diseased plant clippings

Compost Tip: Think “natural, plant-based, and unprocessed.” If it came from the earth and hasn’t been chemically treated, it’s probably compostable.
To make things easier, Eccofy bins are designed to keep your composting odor-free, bug-free, and visually clean. Pair your daily composting with our bin systems to support the process without the mess.
